The hospital was completed in 2018 and was the first hospital in the world achieving "BREAAM In-Use Outstanding" classification and an "A" energy class.
The hospital gives inhabitants of Oslo (and surrounding areas) increased access to modern health care services, with a special focus on pulmonary rehabilitation (incl. rehabilitation after Covid-19) and cardiac rehabilitation.
The hospital was previously owned by Samhällsbyggnadsbolaget i Norden AB (SBB), one of the largest owners of public properties in the Nordic region. The current owner is the foundation Diakonissehuset Lovisenberg ("Lovisenbergstiftelsen"), an experienced operator of hospitals through more than 100 years (founded in 1868). Lovisenbergstiftelsen is an integral part of Helse Sør-Øst RHF (the relevant regional public health care provider), providing local hospital services to the inhabitants of Oslo and nationwide surgical services.
